Climate Action Workshop

What an amazing couple of creative days we had - thank you so much to Kirsty Hammond (Heart of BS13) for funding the project, to Merchant Academy School for hosting it, Alice Newton for assisting and of course all the wonderful kids who absolutely blew me away with the amount of creativity and engagement that we shared. I can't wait to do more!

I chose to make bug key rings, since everyone loves bugs right? This meant that I could teach about environmentalism (how re-wilding nature is important) sustainability (how up cycling is really cool) simple crafting skills (hand stitching, glue gunning and how to use a sewing machine) simple design skills (drawing, designing and making a pattern) and al the while encouraging the kids to unleash their own creativity in the process.

And I have to say we absolutely smashed it! The kids loved the bright colours, loved the idea of making bugs and simply got completely involved in the whole process from the get go. We held a discussion about climate change at the start and ended with what things we can do to live a more sustainable lifestyle and they really listened and participated.

Below are some photos from the day. I simply can't wait to do more workshops like this as the engagement was brilliant and it really felt like we were helping to make a difference.
