The Birds

Last year I was asked to make ten feature bird costumes for the Opening Ceremony on the main Origin Stage at Boom Town Festival. Obviously I jumped at the chance - little realising what I was actually getting into and what an epic experience this would turn out to be.

The main stage was absolutely enormous, the production was incredible and the whole team I worked with were an incredibly talented bunch of performers and crew. Since this was the first festival coming out of lockdown deadlines and budgets were abnormally tight so it felt like we were up against the impossible. To add to the intensity, the whole time on site was during an incredibly hot heat wave where the festival site turned into an arid dust bowl. Just having enough energy to walk across site was enough to deal with let alone work to an intense rehearsal schedule!

However everyone worked above and beyond and it was incredible seeing how it all came together with all the thousands of crew involved.
